Please take a closer look at our C&D recycling facility.

Outside Shot Located two-miles from downtown Chicago, Allied Waste’s C&D recycling facility is the first of its kind in the Chicago metropolitan area, with the capacity to process up to 1,500 tons per day.
Veco Plan The heart of the facility is the VecoPlan industrial shredder. Sorting of material is simplified by turning large pieces of C&D material into smaller manageable pieces.
Sorting Line On the main line, materials are separated into two categories according to size:
  • Fine materials, which are materials under 2 and a half inches in diameter, and
  • Fractions, which are larger than 2 and a half inches.
The facility implements both manual and automated sorting to achieve the highest recovery rate.
Waterbath Treatment Heavy fractions are treated by a water bath—the heavy objects sink to the bottom and the light pieces float to the surface. This process recovers 98 percent of the wood processed at the facility. The wood recovered is used as fuel at power plants, feed stock for new paper and mulch.
Bales Allied's state-of-the-art equipment accepts a majority of all types of C&D debris and is capable of recovering up to 90 percent of all recyclable materials.
