The C&D Demand
Municipal green building programs are on the rise. Throughout metropolitan Chicago, developers, builders and architects are just a few of the groups taking advantage of new green building technologies to make their projects more marketable. As contractors are experiencing a growing demand to employ these “green building technologies,” Allied Waste offers communities and businesses economically sustainable recycling solutions.
LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council has become a standard in new construction. A successful C&D recycling program will help builders and developers gain two out of 13 points awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council in the Materials and Resources category.
It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of the construction and demolition debris waste stream can be recovered and recycled. As precious landfill space continues to decrease, municipalities are requiring that C&D material be recycled. In Chicago, more than half of all waste generated is construction and demolition debris—the largest component of the city’s waste stream. We can help contractors comply with local ordinances that call for the recycling of as much as 50 percent of C&D debris.
Allied Waste provides the knowledge and expertise to develop and implement a waste management plan that calls for recycling as many items as possible from a construction and demolition site. By accepting mixed, unsorted debris in one centralized container, we offer our customers the assurance that waste generated at their project will be recycled in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. On jobsites where space is limited, having fewer recycling containers on site and commingling the recyclables can save valuable space and money.
